The stock knife has enjoyed a revival in recent years as numerous well known craftspeople have been seen to use them to great effect in their work.
In principle it is a simple thing, being a sturdy tool around 3'6" in length with a single bevelled blade and a large hook that secures the tool to an equally robust work bench. The tool is operated by placing the work onto the bench the applying the blade, the operator can push though the cut utilising the tremendous leverage generated.
Traditionally, these tools are associated where heavy stock removal combined with speed and accuracy were the requirement in trades such as Clog or Shoe Last making. Whilst still relevant to these skills today, the appeal of the Stock knife has broadened to those producing a wide range of green wood articles such spoons and bowls- where the tool is seen as an alternative approach to using an axe.
I have produced numerous examples of stock knives over the last 10 years having worked closely with original Henry Carter knives and am now happy to offer these tools as a made to order product.
Upon enquiry I can also provide Gripper and hollower blades to complete the full trio set for Clog and Last makers.
Supplied with a forged eye bolt and multiple plates for fixing to your bench.
These tools are made to order and may take 8 - 12 weeks to complete.
Depending on your location, additional shipping charges may be applied as these are large, heavy objects.
